CHANGING FROM FUEL OIL IS SIMPLE

Fuel your asphalt plants with reliable and lower-carbon natural gas – whether you have access to a pipeline or not. Kinder Morgan converts traditional natural gas to liquefied natural gas (LNG), making it easy to transport and store.

ASPHALT PLANTS

LNG from Kinder Morgan is a reliable and affordable alternative to fuel oil, waste oil, propane and diesel, which enables your company to control energy costs while reducing your carbon footprint.

SAVE MONEY

FINANCIAL COSTS

The pictures to the left show burner flames of both fuel oil and natural gas. Natural gas has a more consistent flame and needs less oxygen to burn than fuel oil. Hence, natural gas is significantly more efficient than fuel oil or diesel. Greater efficiency equals lower energy costs by reducing fuel use and electricity needs.

OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE COSTS

LNG is clean and energy-dense fuel source that can result in reduced operational and maintenance costs. In fact, the use of natural gas can lead to an operational savings of as much as $1.00 an asphalt ton or equal to $0.30 per gallon (#4 fuel oil gallon equivalent). This savings is the result of natural gas not being impacted by water content and other contaminants challenges associated with fuel oils that can cause soot buildup lowering burner efficiency and increase fuel consumption.

STABLE PRICE

Unlike fuel oils, LNG is not subject to wild price swings which helps control costs and maintain budgets. Kinder Morgan also offers customers the option to hedge, for years if desired, providing greater predictability and consistency of long-term costs. This allows customers to capitalize on the already stable commodity of natural gas.

TURNKEY SOLUTIONS

Kinder Morgan provides mobile and permanent regasification systems and storage solutions, allowing customers to easily incorporate LNG as a fuel source for their operations. LNG can be delivered directly to your site via our transportation fleet or our carrier partners. LNG fueling systems can feed into most existing lines, and all installation and construction activities are managed by Kinder Morgan.
Mobile (Temporary) Systems

Mobile LNG tanks and vaporizers require minimal site preparation. This “virtual pipeline” is ideal for seasonal operations. Equipment can be provided to the customer at no cost thus eliminating capital expense.

Kinetrex also offers temporary natural gas service that serve as a “bridge” for operations. When natural gas supply is constrained or not yet available from the utility, the Kinetrex mobile “virtual pipeline” is the solution. Kinetrex delivers LNG to the customer’s site, which is held in temporary on-site storage and vaporized with mobile regasification systems.

Permanent Systems

Kinetrex field services manages the installation of permanent LNG storage and vaporization systems. The experienced field services team help make it simple to switch from propane, diesel or waist oil fuel when converting boilers, dryers, heaters, power generators to run on LNG.

Kinetrex has helped our customers convert their asphalt operations to run on LNG allowing for significant fuel savings.

RELIABLE

Kinder Morgan is the largest provider of LNG to the Midwest and is connected to four major interstate natural gas pipelines. The company operates two manufacturing plants which provide 24 million LNG gallons of storage capacity; a plentiful supply that eliminates fuel shortage concerns. Kinder Morgan has four truck loading stations operating 24/7 that can load up to 96 trucks each day and four trucks simultaneously.

Remote monitoring allows access to tank levels, dispatching deliveries as needed. Our mobile app provides real-time LNG system and delivery data to the customer anywhere, anytime.

CLEAN

LNG is a much cleaner fuel than fuel oil thus reducing operational and maintenance costs on equipment. LNG is purified natural gas, consisting primarily of methane, and produces much lower carbon emissions when compared to other fossil fuels – approximately 56% less CO2 emissions than fuel oil. LNG allows for emissions compliance, safety and drastically reduces operating expenses due to the clean, even burn of natural gas.

SAFE

Even with filtration, waste oil can ultimately lead to severe equipment damage and endanger plant personnel. Baghouses can be damaged by an internal fire caused by improperly heated fuel oil. Some of the unburned fuel can be carried over to the baghouse where it accumulates and ignites.

LNG is colorless, odorless, non-toxic, and non-corrosive. It has the best safety record compared to propane, fuel oil and diesel. LNG is stored at low pressure and as a liquid will not explode. If spilled, it will evaporate and does not require cleanup or remediation like fuel oil sources.
