Quality Fabrication of Gas and Liquid Treatment Equipment

Posted on Monday, November 29, 2021

A robust Quality Management System (QMS) paired with lean manufacturing principles create the ideal process structure to help organizations reduce waste and drive down costs. One primary consideration to take into account when looking for gas and liquid treatment equipment is the quality of the product. Standard processes ensure that gas and liquid treatment equipment are produced per customer requirements and function properly and safely when placed in operation.

ISO 9001: 2015 Certified

Kinder Morgan Treating LP (KMT) has an ISO 9001:2015 certified fabrication facility that incorporates the ISO Standard into its fabrication processes to efficiently produce high-quality gas and liquid treatment equipment. The National Quality Assurance, a global accredited certification body, has assessed and approved our ability to implement an effective quality management system in key business processes related to the manufacturing and sale of equipment used for treating and processing natural gas and natural gas products.

ASME Authorization to Manufacture

Our gas and liquid treatment plants utilize equipment that is fabricated per the guidelines outlined in the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) codes of construction. KMT holds an ASME Certificate of Authorization, or ASME U Stamp, which authorizes the company to manufacture pressure vessels in accordance with the provisions of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code.

National Board Authorization to Register

KMT is authorized by the National Board to apply the “NB” mark and register boilers, pressure vessels or other pressure-retaining items with the National Board. The scope of authorization is limited to items manufactured per the ASME U Designator. This certificate of authorization to register pressure vessels remains in effect as long as KMT holds a valid certificate of authorization issued by the ASME.

Our fabrication team also manufactures non-code gas and liquid treatment equipment per customer requirements.

National Board Authorization to Repair

Additionally, KMT is authorized to use the R Symbol per the provisions of the National Board Inspection Code and NB-415, Accreditation of “R” Repair Organizations.

The scope of the certification is limited to metallic repair and alteration at shop and field locations. Pressure vessels that are a part of gas treatment equipment (and/or liquid treatment equipment) units can be repaired and stamped per the code.

Repairs to non-code gas and/or liquid treatment equipment are also performed by our team.

The documented processes and procedures that guide the fabrication activities are key factors that contribute to high-quality outputs. Standard processes and procedures allow organizations to provide customers with products that meet or exceed their requirements.

KMT utilizes customer satisfaction surveys, lessons learned registers and conducts monthly employee training sessions to maximize organizational knowledge. The QMS is leveraged to continuously improve internal processes based on documented opportunities for improvement and gained knowledge.

Our QMS ensures that the fabrication of gas and/or liquid treatment equipment is manufactured correctly and is consistent with customer and applicable regulatory requirements.

Inspection and Test Plan

When looking for gas and liquid treatment equipment, you must also take into account that the equipment has passed rigorous safety tests. Our pressure vessels, modular skid units, and gas and liquid treatment equipment follow an inspection and test plan (ITP) that outlines the required activities, frequency of inspection hold points, reference documents, acceptance criteria, verifying documents and signatures.

Types of Equipment

Various processes may be required for gas and liquid to become marketable, requiring a variety of systems and equipment. Some examples are:

  • Acid Gas Treatment Units

  • Glycol Dehydration Systems

  • BTEX Elimination Units

  • H2S Scavengers

  • Phase Separation Units

  • Condensate Stabilization

  • NGL Recovery and stabilization

  • Mechanical Refrigeration Units (MRUs)

Depending on which phase of gas and liquid treatment is required, we will determine the kind of equipment you will need.
