Product Heating
KMMS heats a broad range of products, including liquid asphalt used in the road construction industry, syrups, waxes, and molasses. Heat is generated by boilers and distributed to the vessels and manifold piping. Product is then pumped through the manifolds and into the trucks where the material is re-distributed. KMMS has a certified boiler expert on staff to ensure safe operations. KMMS currently manages multiple operations that require boilers and unloads approximately 20,000 heated railcars per year at temperatures ranging from 85° F to 280° F.

Blending
KMMS performs blending services of bulk products from railcar to railcar, truck to railcar, railcar to truck and truck to truck. Product is generally discharged from the vessels to a “pig” or to a trailer where it is blended and then sent to the finished vessel. It is then distributed to various local customers.

Packaging
KMMS’ experience with packaging involves designing, constructing and operating a kitty-litter bagging facility for a well known manufacturer of clay products. This unique facility has five packaging/processing lines and can multi-package various size bags, boxes, jugs, etc. The product, once packaged, is warehoused and then redistributed to various customers.
KMMS also processes and packages various metals including ores, ferrites, chromes, zinc, manganese and other abrasive products. These products are placed in various types and sizes of bags, boxes and super-sacks. Historically, KMMS designs and manufactures most of its own equipment / components for this industry.

Van Spotting / Trailer Pre-Load / Local Cartage
KMMS’ experience includes managing inbound and outbound trailers for a diverse group of customers. Drayage companies routinely use KMMS for spotting their trailers. KMMS provides all of the necessary paperwork with regard to the inventory and tracking, drayage requirements, bill of lading needs and trailer paperwork. Drivers simply arrive at the terminal and pick up the trailer, complete with paperwork.
KMMS pulls empty trailers from a pool, places them along side a railcar, transloads product from a railcar and then spots the trailer for the cartage company to pull and deliver. In keeping with Kinder Morgan's commitment to safety and security at its facilities, KMMS has implemented adequate security measures at each of its transload sites.
Although KMMS is not in the trucking business, KMMS can assist with the selection of a local cartage service. KMMS will secure rate quotes from three local cartage companies and select the carrier based on service performance and cost. KMMS will provide a bundled rate that includes the local cartage.
