Benefits of Natural Gas
During construction, this Northeast Upgrade Project will generate millions of dollars for the state and local economies from living expenses, entertainment, and, in some cases, temporary jobs. Moreover, depending on the region in which the facilities are located, the townships and/or boroughs will see a significant increase in revenue from annual property taxes paid by Tennessee after the Northeast Upgrade Project is placed in-service.
Tennessee expects the pipeline contract to be bid to union contractors and believes it is beneficial to employ local labor and encourages the contractor to do so wherever practicable. Contractors, local or otherwise, normally employ some workers from the local labor force, but some of the work requires job-specific skills and experience (i.e. welding, equipment operators, etc.) that may be unavailable locally.
Benefits of Natural Gas
The macro environment and outlook for natural gas usage remains strong and, if proper public policies are adopted, the commodity at the heart of our business will increase in importance. Natural gas provides long-term solutions for many of the energy and environmental challenges facing our nation. Natural gas is:
- Versatile. Natural gas is the most versatile energy source, providing fuel for power generation and industrial facilities throughout the country, feedstock for various consumer and industrial products, and heating and cooking in our homes and businesses. In the future, we see natural gas vehicles playing an important role in providing a reliable and clean source of transportation on our roadways.
- Clean. Natural gas is a vital component in the country’s movement toward a less carbon-intensive energy footprint. Natural gas is, by far, the cleanest burning fossil fuel and will provide a smooth transition while other energy sources and efficiencies are developed over the next decades.
- Abundant and domestic. With the recent development of various unconventional sources of natural gas in the United States, including natural gas shales located in many parts of the country, we have a long-term, domestic energy solution that is providing supplies for future generations.
