Eastern Shelf/Katz Field Project

Construction is underway on Kinder Morgan CO2’s Eastern Shelf Pipeline and the Katz oil field project in the eastern Permian Basin of Texas. The project involves the installation of a 91-mile, 10-inch diameter CO2 distribution pipeline and complementary facilities that will have an initial capacity of 65 million cubic feet per day, with the ability to increase the capacity to 200 million cubic feet per day.  In addition, the project includes the development of a new CO2 flood in the Katz Field near Knox City, Texas.

Kinder Morgan anticipates that the project will unlock an incremental 25 million barrels of oil to be produced over the next 15 to 20 years from the Katz Field, and will provide a platform for future enhanced oil recovery operations in the region. The pipeline is expected to be completed and CO2 injections should begin in early 2011.
