Q. How does a CO2 flood work in my reservoir?
A. Oil and water do not mix. When water is used to push oil through a reservoir, it leaves a significant residue behind. With CO2 flooding, CO2 and oil mix above a pressure known as the minimum miscibility pressure (MMP). At or above the MMP, CO2 acts as a solvent, cleanly sweeping the reservoir, leaving a small residue behind. At pressures below the MMP, CO2 assists oil production by swelling the oil and reducing its viscosity.

A. CO2 flooding has worked successfully in the Permian Basin, Oklahoma, Utah, the Rocky Mountain region, Hungary, Turkey and other locations.
 
Q. How large does my field have to be for a CO2 flood?
A. Typically, to CO2 flood a field, the field should have original oil in place of more than 5 million barrels, and have more than 10 producing wells.
 
Q. Are equipment upgrades necessary, and what would it cost?
A. If you are currently injecting water, then the cost for upgrading equipment is usually minimal.

A. The time between CO2 injection and increased oil production is typically one to two years, depending on your well spacing.
 
Q. What is my expected oil recovery?
A. That depends on several factors. But our experience shows a potential recovery of 8 % to 16 % of the original oil in place.
