Future Plans - TMX
New pipeline capacity will be required in the next 10 years to transport growing volumes of product from Alberta and to replace declining US reserves. Recent studies have concluded that emerging West Coast and Asia Pacific markets provide an opportunity for Canada to become a significant contributor in these markets.
TMX is a multi-staged expansion designed to link growing Western Canadian oil production with West Coast and offshore markets. The project consists of incrementally 'looping' (twinning) the pipeline between Edmonton, Alberta and Burnaby, British Columbia. The 1,150 km long pipeline has 315 km of loops already constructed.
Recently Completed
Trans Mountain Pump Station Expansion
The Trans Mountain Pump Station Expansion project was successfully completed in 2007. It added 10 new pump stations along the existing TMPL system, which increased its capacity by 5564 m3/d (35,000 bpd) .
TMX - Anchor Loop Project
The TMX - Anchor Loop Project involved twinning (or looping) a 159-kilometre (99-mile) section of the existing TMPL system between Hinton, Alberta, and Hargreaves, British Columbia, and the addition of two new pump stations. The TMPL is already looped with a 30-inch pipe between Darfield and Kamloops, British Columbia, and a 30-inch pipe between Edson and Hinton, Alberta. The project was successfully completed in October 2008, bringing the TMPL capacity up to 48 000 m3/d (300,000 bpd). More details.
