Kinder Morgan Power Company is focused on developing natural gas-fired power plants. The company built and holds a preferred interest in a 550-megawatt natural gas-fired power plant in Jackson, Mich. It also owns an interest in three plants in Colorado.
The plants utilize Kinder Morgan's proprietary Orion technology. Orion facilities are designed
to operate during intermediate and peak demand periods to provide wholesale electricity to electric
utilities and power marketing companies. The beauty of the Orion technology is that it allows plants
to be started and stopped quickly at a nominal cost, allowing our tolling parties to respond quickly
to changes in the marketplace. These plants combine the operational flexibility and responsiveness
of a simple cycle peaking plant with the fuel efficiency of combined cycle design, utilizing both
aero derivative and industrial gas turbines.
